Palm Announces Treo 500 Smartphone Featuring Windows Mobile 6



Mobile High-speed 3G/UMTS Internet Access and Multiple Forms of Communication Combined in One Compact Handset

SYDNEY, Feb. 5, 2008 – Palm Australasia today announced the availability in of the Palm® Treo™ 500 smartphone, which combines multiple forms of communication with high-speed 3G/UMTS mobile Internet access.(1)

Building on the success of the Treo 500v smartphone, launched in October last year, the new Treo 500 smartphone runs on a Windows Mobile® 6 Standard platform and has a full keyboard, large screen and a comprehensive multimessaging functionality covering email, IM, SMS, phone and personal information management software in a new design.(1) The compact form factor is available in charcoal grey.

With the Treo 500 smartphone, customers can manage documents using mobile versions of familiar Microsoft applications, such as Outlook, Office, and Windows Live™ for Windows Mobile. In addition, users can share the Treo 500 smartphone’s data access with a laptop, so they can stay connected anywhere within wireless coverage.(2)

The Treo 500 smartphone is available for $649 (including GST) from select retail stores, including Harris Technology. The Treo 500 is approved on the Optus network.
