Palm Corporate Alliance Partner Programme to Focus on Mobile Email and Vertical Solutions
SINGAPORE, Feb. 14, 2006 – Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq: PALM), a leader in mobile computing, today launched its Corporate Alliance Partner (CAP) Programme in Asia Pacific. The programme aims to formalise the engagement of Palm solution partners and to tightly align partner activities with Palm's go-to-market strategies.
"Our alliance partners represent an important aspect of the Palm Economy, with thousands of professionals and businesses around the world relying on the solutions these partners have deployed for Palm devices," said Paul Blinkhorn, vice president for Palm Asia Pacific. "The CAP Programme will enable participating partners to tap into Palm's technical and marketing resources and leverage each other's business leads and installed bases."
The Palm CAP Programme will provide recognition and endorsement of vertical solutions developed for Palm® devices by alliance partners. To date, the following 13 partners have joined the programme:

Palm devices feature superior ease of use, excellent integration of hardware and software, and a diversity of more than 27,000 third-party Palm OS® applications. Palm offers developers unparalleled flexibility in the choice of hardware devices – handhelds, mobile managers and smartphones – and is further supported by an open Palm OS development environment, which today comprises a community of more than 400,000 developers. Recently, the Palm Treo™ 650 smartphone was rated "Best in Class" by global research and consulting company Strategy Analytics, after a head-to-head consumer test against the RIM BlackBerry 7100, the Samsung SCH-i730 and the UTStarcomm PPC6600.
Wireless solutions are increasingly becoming mobile extensions of the office. According to IDC's Mobile Worker Forecast, two-thirds of U.S. workers and 55 percent of Western European workers will travel for business in 2006.
Palm, together with its alliance partners, has seen successes in mobile email and vertical application deployments in the healthcare, real estate, field marketing, financial services and hospitality industries. In the vertical applications space, Jurong Shipyard recently deployed a Palm device-based RFID solution for people-tracking and site security from Singapore alliance partner InfoPlus Solutions.
"Palm enterprise solutions bring real benefits and distinct ROI to companies like Jurong Shipyard," said Victor Fung, director of InfoPlus. "Palm's category-defining products allow InfoPlus to better provide a one-stop end-to-end suite of business-critical applications and wireless integration services to customers."
Australian developer Valorem Systems developed and patented its Kevah wireless reporting software, which allows mobile workers to transmit secure, date-stamped reports containing voice, text and images via Palm handhelds and Palm Treo smartphones. Kevah has since been deployed in facilities-management roles in companies such as Australian property giant Mirvac Group, and Glad Cleaning Services.
Jon Tinberg, chief executive officer, Valorem Systems, said, "Valorem Systems provides end-to-end mobility solutions that deliver real business benefits and are easy to use. Valorem has developed unique solutions for multimedia mobile data capture and reporting on Palm smartphones and handhelds. By partnering with Palm in its CAP Programme, we now have the opportunity to access and leverage Palm's technical and marketing resources."
"More importantly, the compelling ROI of Palm solutions lets us differentiate ourselves by giving our customers even more value, as in the case of the Mirvac group, which saves four hours a week in reporting time alone with our solutions. Such benefits lead to greater productivity and higher customer satisfaction," Tinberg added.
Other companies that have adopted Palm enterprise solutions include TSMP Law Corporation in Singapore, Prudential Malaysia, and New York Life Insurance Worldwide Ltd. Hong Kong.
The Palm CAP Programme initially will be rolled out in Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong with four classifications: Systems Integrators; Value-added Resellers; Corporate IT Resellers; and Carrier B2B. Joining the CAP Programme is free, and participants will receive a host of benefits, including hardware discounts, training, and access to Palm's marketing and sales resources.
