Do I already have the update?
Your LifeDrive mobile manager may already include the latest software: Click here to find out.

What to expect

The LifeDrive Update 2.0 will change the permanent (ROM) software in your mobile manager. Please set aside at least 20 minutes to complete the update process.

Caution: This update will erase all data in Program Memory. Read the instructions in the installer carefully; they will guide you through backing up and restoring your personal data.

After the update, you'll restore your data from these backups. However, some third-party applications change the way your device backs up data. Other third-party applications do not back up data. If you have third-party software on your device, please contact the developer to learn what components are backed up during a HotSync operation, and if HotSync conduits are altered. Any data not backed up will be lost.

This update does not erase the contents of your Internal Drive (pictures, music and documents) or an inserted expansion card.

System Requirements
  • LifeDrive mobile manager
  • English language on device. If you are using a non-English language device, do not install this update. Please check back at a later time.
  • 23MB free memory on device: how to check | how to make room
  • Windows 2000/XP, or Mac OS 10.2.6 to 10.4.x
  • You must have synchronised at least once with your PC or Mac before you can install the update (i.e. a user folder for the device exists on the computer).
  • Battery is fully charged and device is connected to a power supply.

Note: This update cannot be installed with LifeDrive Manager to your device's hard drive. It must be installed to Program Memory through a HotSync operation. Complete instructions below.

Download & Install — Windows

Windows (install through HotSync):

Prepare Your LifeDrive Device

  1. Connect your device its charger. It needs to be connected throughout the update.
  2. Make sure you know your device's user name: how to find it.

Download and Install

  1. Download LifeDrive_Update_2_0_win.zip
    (21.8 MB ZIP File).
  2. Unzip the file you just downloaded.
  3. Double-click the file you unzipped: LifeDrive 2.0 Updater.exe.

  5. The update will auto-start after you sync (as instructed by the installer). Do not disconnect your power cable during the process.
Note: During the update process, your device may reset several times. This is normal. If your device takes more than 30 seconds to turn back on, or will not power on, perform a soft reset.
  6. When the update is complete, your device will ask you to tap a series of targets. Do this, then set the time and date on your device. Then select Done.
  7. After the update finishes on your device, the installer will ask you to perform another HotSync operation to restore your data. Important: When asked for your user name, select the same user name that you looked up earlier. The backed up personal data and applications will be restored to your device.

Restore Data

  1. The installer includes a final HotSync operation to restore your personal data and applications in Program Memory, If you need help with HotSync, start here.

Troubleshooting

Download & Install — Mac

Mac (install through HotSync):

Prepare Your LifeDrive Device

  1. Connect your device its charger. It needs to be connected throughout the update.
  2. Make sure you know your device's user name: how to find it. You'll need this to restore your data.

Create a new, blank user profile

  1. Perform a HotSync operation to back up your data. Make sure your conduits are set to "Synchronize the files" (how).
  2. Perform a hard reset.
  3. Your device will ask you to tap three targets, set date and time, and confirm setup. Do this now.
  4. Next, you will create a new profile:
    1. Perform a HotSync operation.
    2. You will be asked to select a user or create a new account. Select New and enter a completely new user name (such as "TempDelete").
    3. Finish the sync. Your device will contain none of your user data at this point.

Download and Install

  1. Download LifeDrive_Update_2_0_mac.sit
    (20.0 MB StuffIt archive)
  2. Your Mac's web browser should automatically expand the file into a folder named "LifeDrive_Update_2_0_mac" which contains 36 Palm OS PRC and PDB files. If it doesn't, you will need to use a utility such as Allume StuffIt Expander to decompress the file. Note the folder location in which the decompressed files are saved. These are the files you should see:
    • AAACheckerApp.prc
    • AAACheckerApp_deDE.prc
    • AAACheckerApp_enUS.prc
    • AAACheckerApp_esES.prc

    • DeviceCustomizerApp_esES.prc
    • DeviceCustomizerApp_frFR.prc
    • DeviceCustomizerApp_itIT.prc
    • Inventory.pdb
    • RomUpdater.prc
Important: Although you may be tempted to use Drive Mode to transfer these files to your device's Internal Drive or an expansion card - don't. The installer was designed to be transferred via HotSync operation only. Read on.
  3. Launch Palm Desktop on your Mac. From the HotSync menu, select Install Handheld Files.
  4. In the Install Handheld Files window, select the new user name you created above (such as "TempDelete").
  5. Drag and drop the 36 Palm OS files above into the Install Handheld Files window. Do not change the destination to Secure Digital (SD) Card; keep it as Handheld.
  6. Perform a HotSync operation. This will transfer the installer to your device.
  7. The update will begin automatically when synchronization is complete. Do not disconnect the charging cable. You will see a screen that says "Updating Device ROM."
Note: During the update, your device may reset several times. This is normal. However, if your device turns off and takes more than 30 seconds to turn back on, or will not power on, perform a soft reset.
  8. When the update is complete, you'll see a series of targets to calibrate the touchscreen. Do this, then set the time and date. Then select Done.

Restore Data

  1. Perform a HotSync operation. Important: When asked for your user name, select the previous user name that you looked up earlier (not "TempDelete"). The backed up personal data and applications will be restored to your device. If you need help with HotSync, start here.
  2. If you have paired Bluetooth wireless devices, you will need to re-pair those devices now. The secure pairing files are not backed up or restored with synchronization.
  3. Important: Now you should delete the temporary user name you created above ("TempDelete"). Never sync to the temporary user name after performing the update, or the updater will be re-installed on your device whenever you sync. To delete the temporary user name:
    1. On your Mac, launch Palm Desktop.
    2. From the HotSync menu, select User, then Edit Users.
    3. Click on the new user name you created above (such as "TempDelete").
    4. Click on Delete. When asked to confirm, select Delete.
