This update is recommended for all Tungsten
C handhelds.
Tungsten C Update 3.0 is the third software update for
the Tungsten C handheld. It contains the solutions provided
in the initial update, plus the following:
- Improved network connectivity for filtered networks.
- Enable the blinking of the device LED on Wi-Fi network
activity.
- Prevents Wi-Fi disconnects due to invalid DHCP renewal
requests and premature Wi-Fi connection timeout.
- Corrects roaming issues between multiple access points
on the same subnet in campus environments.
- Enhances power sequence, MMC card driver, and digitizer
behavior.

Installation Instructions
PLEASE READ THE NOTES TO THE RIGHT BEFORE ATTEMPTING THESE
INSTRUCTIONS.
If you are a Windows user
follow these steps using the appropriate files listed above:
- Ensure that your Tungsten C handheld is fully charged
and has at least 20 Megabytes of memory available. Click
here if you need instruction on checking available
memory. If you do not have 20 Megabytes of free memory
available delete some unused files/applications or see
the Alternate Installation
method.
- Ensure that your Tungsten C handheld has the same MAC
address as the one located on the rear of the unit by
following these steps:
- From the Launcher on your Tungsten C select 'Prefs'.
- From the 'Prefs' Panel choose 'Wi-Fi'.
- Select 'Info' from the bottom of the Wi-Fi screen.
- Next to MAC Address there is a 12 character ID,
This should match the number on the rear of your device.
- If the MAC Address does not match the MAC label
on the rear of the handheld, contact
Palm Customer Support. DO NOT continue to step
3.
- Download the TCUpdate3_enUS.zip file.
- Extract the file using a standard unzip utility. Note
the location of the directory/folder the file is extracted
to.
- Launch Palm Quick Install on your desktop computer.
- Select the correct user name from the User list.
- Select the Add button.
- Locate TCUpdate3.prc file in the directory/folder noted
in Step 4 above and double-click on it to add the file
to the Palm Quick Install Tool. Ensure you install the
file to the handheld and not to an expansion card.
- Place your handheld in the cradle and synchronise your
device to your computer, the Tungsten C Update will be
installed on your handheld.
- From the 'Prefs' Panel choose 'Wi-Fi' and turn Wi-Fi
"On".
- On your handheld device launch the TCUpdate3 application
from the launcher screen.
- Follow the on screen instructions on your handheld to
run the update. Your device will automatically reset after
the update.
- Place your handheld in the cradle and HotSync your device
to your desktop computer one more time to complete the
update.
- Once this HotSync is complete, delete the 'TCUpdate3'
application from your handheld using the Delete function
from the Handheld Application panel.
If you are a Macintosh user
follow these steps using the appropriate files listed above:
- Ensure that your Tungsten C handheld is fully charged
and has at least 20 Megabytes of memory available. Click

memory. If you do not have 20 Megabytes of free memory

- Your web browser should automatically expand the file
and you will see the appropriate .sit file appear on the
desktop (or in your default download folder). If your
web browser does not expand the file automatically, you
will need to use an expanding utility (such as Aladdin
Stuffit Expander) in order to decode the .sit file.
- Double click to open the TCUpdate3 folder.
- Double click on the TCUpdate3.prc file. The file should
show up in the install screen.
- In the "Install Handheld Files" screen select the desired
user from the user drop down menu. Ensure you install
the file to the handheld and not to an expansion card.
- Place your handheld in the cradle and HotSync your device
to your computer, the Tungsten C Update will be installed
on your handheld.
- From the 'Prefs' Panel choose 'Wi-Fi' and turn Wi-Fi
"On".
- On your handheld device launch the TCUpdate3 application
from the launcher screen.
- Follow the on screen instructions on your handheld to
run the update. Your device will automatically reset after
the update.
- Place your handheld in the cradle and HotSync your device
to your desktop computer one more time to complete the
update.
- Once this HotSync is complete, delete the 'TCUpdate3'
application from your handheld using the Delete function
from the Handheld Application panel.

Backup the data on your Tungsten C handheld, BEFORE
applying this upgrade, by performing a HotSync operation.
The TCUpdate3.prc will update the ROM of your Tungsten
C handheld. During this operation, all data stored on
your Tungsten C handheld will be removed so backing
up before you begin is vital. After performing the upgrade,
perform a second HotSync operation to restore your data.
IMPORTANT: This update is only required if you are
NOT running Tungsten C Software Version "SLC 6/22/04
7:" OR "SLC 6/22/04 7:54:04". All other ROM versions
of the Tungsten C will require the update. Check your
Tungsten C ROM Software version by performing the following
steps:

Press the blue 'Function' key on the built-in
keyboard. |

Press the 'CAPS/Find' Button to the right of
the blue 'Function' key. This will bring up the
'Find' Dialog Box. |

Press the blue 'Function' key again. |
• |
Press the 'Home/Shortcut' key beside the power
button on the built-in keyboard to type a shortcut
symbol in the find dialog box. |
• |
Press the 'Period/Dot' '.' Button. |
• |
Press the blue 'Function' key again followed
by the number '9' to reveal the Software ROM version
on your handheld. |
• |
If the Software version is "SLC 6/22/04 7:54:04"
your Tungsten C is up to date and you do not need
to install the software update. Otherwise, you
should download the update from below. |
