System requirements

  • Unlocked GSM Treo 680 smartphone. If you see a AT&T or Cingular banner you do not have an Unlocked GSM device. This software will not work on AT&T or Cingular devices.
  • Smartphone must be connected to power adapter and the sync cable throughout the update.
  • Windows Vista and Mac OS X only: Blank SD/MMC expansion card1 and card reader.
  • Good Mobile Messaging users: You will need re-download and re-install Good Mobile Messaging after you install the Product Update. After you have completed the update, visit www.good.com for help.

Do you need this update?

1. On your Treo 680, press Phone
2. Press Menu
3. From the Options menu, select Phone Info.
4. Look for the Software: item. What does it say?
  • Treo680-1.04-ROW: Yes, install this update on your device
  • Treo680-2.12-ROW: No, do not install this update. This device is already updated.

Before you start

  • Plug your smartphone into a power outlet and keep it plugged in throughout the update.
  • Ensure your smartphone has at least 26MB free space. Palm recommends 26MB of free space to ensure proper operation. Check free memory.
  • Make sure HotSync Manager is installed on your desktop PC (not required for Windows Vista or IT/enterprise instructions, which use an expansion card to install the update).
  • Keep an eye on your smartphone during the update. Respond to prompts and alerts in a timely manner.
  • Do not leave your smartphone idle for too long while it's updating. The process can fail if you leave your smartphone unattended.
  • Do not reset, turn off, or unplug your device until the update is complete.
  • If installing through an expansion card: do not use a miniSD expansion card with an adapter. This can cause problems with the update. Instead, use a regular, full-sized SD or MMC expansion card.

Ready to download and install?

  • Windows XP/2000 (no expansion card needed)
  • Windows Vista (requires blank SD expansion card1 and reader)
  • Mac OS X (requires blank SD expansion card1 and reader)
  • IT and Enterprise
If you have multiple smartphones to update, you can use an SD expansion card to install the update without needing to sync with a desktop PC. Because the update erases the device, make sure end-users have performed a full HotSync operation and fully backed up their data before installing this software. (requires blank SD expansion card1 and reader)
If you're installing this update with one of the methods that requires an SD/MMC expansion card, do not use a miniSD or microSD expansion card and adapter. Palm has identified that the most reliable method is to use a full-sized SD card between 32MB and 2GB. Using a miniSD or microSD expansion card with an adapter can cause issues with the update.
