Palm Names Inventor of Cardiac Monitor the Winner of Top Powered Up Award

Active Corporation, Revelation Computing, Handmark and Student Developer to be Honoured at PalmSource Conference and Expo

SYDNEY, December 11, 2001 - With more than 175,000 developers worldwide and approximately 1,300 more flocking to the Palm OS(R) platform each week, Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq: PALM) today recognised four of the most innovative developers with the first-ever Powered Up Awards. Active Corporation won the "Best Overall" award for its ActiveECG cardiac monitor, the first FDA-approved product for Palm Powered(TM) devices.

"The Powered Up Awards recognise originality in the vast Palm OS developer community and honor developers of the best applications," said Steve Sakoman, chief technology officer for the Palm OS platform. "There is a great deal of innovation in the categories of enterprise, productivity and education, leisure and entertainment, and among student developers, which made it difficult to select only four winners."

Winners were selected based on the following key criteria: innovation, newness to the category, value, ease of use and expansion.

Powered Up Award Winners

Active ECG is a cost-effective, pocket-sized cardiac monitor that records and analyses cardiac rhythms. A patient used to spend hours in the emergency room waiting to be examined. Now he is able to record his heart rhythms at home and email the results to his cardiologist to be analysed. The Visiting Nurses Association have used it to detect heart irregularities in post-operative patients sent home, not scheduled to visit the doctor for several days. Even veterinarians are using it to help them more effectively read the cardiac rhythms of their animal patients. http://www.activecenter.com/products.html
