Title I, Part B – Student Reading Skills Improvement Grants

The purpose of Title I, Part B, Subpart I: Reading First:

  • Provide assistance...in establishing reading programs for students in kindergarten through grade three that are based on scientifically based reading research

  • Provide assistance ... in selecting or developing effective instructional materials ... programs, learning systems, and strategies to implement methods that have been proven to prevent or remediate reading failure

  • Procure and implement instructional materials, including education technology such as software and other digital curricula, that are based on scientifically based reading research

  • Provide professional development for teachers of kindergarten through grade three, and special education teachers of kindergarten through grade twelve

The purpose of Title I, Part B, Subpart 2: Early Reading First:

  • Provide preschool age children with cognitive learning opportunities in high-quality language and literature-rich environments

  • Meet more effectively the diverse needs of preschool age children in the community, including such children with limited English proficiency, disabilities, or other special needs

  • Prepare and provide ongoing assistance...through professional development and other support
