As president and chief executive officer of Palm, Inc., Ed's mission is to drive the company's global leadership of the mobile computing market with innovative products such as Treo and Centro smartphones. Prior to being named president, Ed was a senior vice president and general manager of the company's Wireless Business Unit.

In 2003, palmOne and Handspring became one company and one of the strongest pure-play mobile computing companies in the world. Prior to this, Ed was president and chief operating officer of Handspring, Inc. where he led the development and marketing efforts for handheld computers and smartphones.

Before joining Handspring, Ed was vice president of marketing for Palm, Inc., and he worked with Jeff Hawkins and Donna Dubinsky to lead the product marketing and marketing communications efforts, including the successful positioning, launch and marketing of the popular Palm product family.

Earlier in his career, Ed was vice president of strategic and product marketing at Radius Corporation. During his eight years there, he helped make Radius the brand leader in Macintosh graphics, graphic imaging, and hardware development.

He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon.

Jon Rubinstein

As executive chairman of Palm, Inc., Jon Rubinstein is chairman of the company's board of directors. In addition, he is an executive officer of the company and leads the company's product-development efforts, focused on driving innovation in the mobile-computing market.

Jon has helped launch some of the most influential computing products of the past decade. As a member of Apple Inc.'s executive staff and head of hardware engineering, he was instrumental in conceiving the iPod, one of the most successful consumer electronics products ever. He also led the team that built the iMac.

Jon began his Apple career in 1997 as senior vice president for hardware engineering. He quickly made a mark by overhauling the company's engineering teams, product roadmaps and manufacturing processes. In 1998, Jon led his new, more nimble engineering team through a rapid rollout of the colorful, egg-shaped iMac, a machine that at once revitalized Apple and revolutionized personal computer design. As the success of the iPod soared, he became head of the iPod Division.

Before joining Apple, Jon spent two decades building his career at a variety of other computer companies, including Hewlett-Packard and NeXT, and started his own computer company, Firepower Systems Inc. He developed many successful products and received a variety of patents during this period.

Jon is a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) and a senior member of the IEEE. He received bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Cornell University and a master's degree in computer science from Colorado State University.

Michael Abbott
Senior Vice President, Application Software and Services
Palm, Inc.


Michael is senior vice president of Application Software and Services, leading the application and services development for the company’s next-generation Palm-developed operating system incorporating open technologies. Michael brings to Palm an array of relevant experiences and technical knowledge from building a range of successful and technically challenging web-based applications and services.

Before joining Palm, Michael was the general manager of .NET Online Services at Microsoft, where he led efforts to deliver a services platform to enable the development of large-scale Internet-based services. Prior to Microsoft, he co-founded Passenger Inc. in 2006, where he served as chairman and led the development of the company’s consumer marketing SAAS platform. Michael also founded Composite Software in 2001, where he served as the CEO/CTO and led the development of their industry-leading enterprise information integration software product.

Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry with a focus in computer science from California Polytechnic State University, and has completed coursework towards a Ph.D. at the University of Washington. Michael also serves on the boards and is an angel investor in several companies.

Mike Bell
Senior Vice President of Product Development
Palm, Inc.


As senior vice president of product development at Palm, Mike leads the company's product-realization group, leveraging his extensive expertise in bringing products to market. He has a broad range of technology experience and skills, including product development and design, hardware and software engineering, program management, product strategy, strategic negotiations and worldwide markets.

Mike comes to Palm from Apple Computer, where he was vice president, CPU Software, in the Macintosh Hardware Division. In his 16 years at Apple, Mike led a host of efforts in a variety of roles, including overall product development leadership for the Airport line of products and low-level software for all Macintosh hardware products.

Mike has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.

Mark Bercow
Mark Bercow

As senior vice president, business development, Mark is responsible for Palm corporate and business-development functions. He returns to Palm after an absence of four years. In his early years at the company, Mark was the vice president responsible for the Palm OS® platform and led the creation of the "Palm Economy," which grew to more than 100,000 developers and 20,000 applications during his tenure.

Prior to his return to Palm, Mark was a vice president at Intuit, where he helped establish and grow the Intuit Developer Network. His group created SDKs (software development kits), recruited developers and provided technical and member support and service resulting in 30,000+ developers producing 7,000 applications for Intuit.

Prior to Intuit, Mark was vice president of marketing and business development at Atheros Communications, an early stage wireless semiconductor startup. He was responsible for all marketing, product marketing strategy, segmentation and business development.

Before his initial position at Palm, Mark held several management and executive management positions at high-growth technology companies, including Sun Microsystems and Chipcom Corporation.

Andy Brown
Andrew (Andy) J. Brown

As chief financial officer, Andy is responsible for finance and accounting, investor relations, corporate development and information technology at Palm.

Before joining Palm in December 2004, Andy was the chief financial officer at Pillar Data Systems, a development stage startup, and prior to that he was at Legato Systems, Inc., where he was part of a new management team that rebuilt the company. Prior to Legato, he was the vice president and chief financial officer at Adaptec, Inc., where he helped drive company performance during periods of rapid growth. Andy also held prior finance-management roles at Cypress Semiconductor Corp. and Precision Monolithics, Inc.

Brown holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Eastern Illinois University (Charleston, Ill.).

Mary Doyle
Mary E. Doyle
Senior Vice President and General Counsel
Palm, Inc.


Mary Doyle is senior vice president and general counsel of Palm, Inc., and manages delivery of legal services to the company's worldwide operations. She sits on the senior executive management team, and is advisor and business partner to the Board of Directors and executive management. Mary has also assumed responsibility for developing the company's governmental affairs program.

Mary's legal career spans more than two decades, beginning with her first job in business litigation at Manatt Phelps. In 1984, she joined Teledyne, Inc., where she worked for 12 years in increasingly responsible roles, ultimately as general counsel of the company's Aerospace and Electronics Segment. Mary returned to the Silicon Valley in 1996 to join General Magic, Inc. as its general counsel and secretary. She joined Palm, Inc. in April 2003.

Mary graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz, with honors and a bachelor's degree in biology and economics. In 1978, Mary received her law degree from the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, where she was the president of the law school student body and of her graduating class. Mary is past president of the Silicon Valley Association of General Counsel, a Trustee of the U.C. Santa Cruz Foundation and a member of its Finance Committee, and a member of the General Counsel Committee for the Silicon Valley Campaign for Legal Services.

John Hartnett
John Hartnett

As senior vice president of global markets, John is responsible for Palm’s sales and customer support for all channels, including retail, distribution, carrier, and eCommerce.

Before his current position, John was executive vice president of worldwide operations, service, support and eCommerce at Handspring, Inc. In October 2003, Handspring and palmOne became one, combined company. John was a member of the merger leadership team.

Before joining Handspring, John was senior vice president of U.S. marketing, support and operations for MetaCreations. There he was responsible for developing the marketing, branding and advertising strategies — including online marketing and website redesign

Prior to MetaCreations, John served as director of international operations at Claris, where he developed and managed the operations business plan and was part of the lead team in the merger of the Applesoft and Claris business. John also spent time at AT&T GIS, Digital Equipment and Wang.

John earned a marketing degree through the Marketing Institute of Ireland, a post grad diploma in finance through the ACCA and is also a graduate of the executive management program at Stanford University.

Jeff Hawkins
Jeff Hawkins

Jeff brings nearly 20 years of technical expertise to his role as Palm's Founder and Member of Executive Team. He co-founded Handspring with Donna Dubinsky in July of 1998 after five years together at Palm Computing. In 1994, Jeff invented the original PalmPilot products and founded Palm Computing. He is often credited as the designer who reinvented the handheld market.

Jeff currently holds nine patents for various handheld devices and features. His vision for handheld computing dates back to the 1980s, when as vice president of research at GRiD Systems Corporation he served as principal architect and designer for the GRiDPad and GRiD Convertible. Prior to that, he held key technical positions with Intel Corporation.

He also founded the non-profit Redwood Neuroscience Institute in 2002, a scientific research institute working on theories and mathematical models of brain function. In 2005 he formed Numenta, which will develop technology derived from his research in neuroscience and brain theory.

Jeff was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2003. He earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Cornell University.

Brodie Keast
Brodie Keast

As senior vice president of marketing at Palm, Brodie Keast is responsible for the company's product strategy and mobile-computing roadmap for consumers, mobile professionals and businesses, as well as for marketing and brand-building aimed at expanding Palm's global presence.

Before joining Palm, Brodie served as senior vice president and general manager of consumer electronics at Seagate Technology, the world's leading maker of hard drives. There, he was responsible for product-line management, product marketing and strategy, market development and external partnerships. Prior to Seagate, Brodie held a variety of executive positions at TiVo, Inc., the creator of and leader in television services for digital video recorders, culminating in being its executive vice president and general manager of the consumer division. Before his tenure at TiVo, Brodie was vice president and general manager of the DLTtape Division at Quantum Corporation, selling to business customers.

Earlier in his career, Brodie held multiple product marketing roles at Apple Computer, Inc., including vice president of PowerBook products and culminating as vice president of worldwide product marketing. Brodie began his career at Hewlett-Packard Company, where he held various management positions.

Brodie received a bachelor's degree in computer science from California State University, Chico.

Rena Lane
Rena Lane

As senior vice president, human resources, Rena is responsible for all worldwide human resources activities at Palm, including staffing, benefits and compensation and work force development.

She brings more than 15 years' experience providing progressive human-resources leadership to companies during all stages of development and global organizational growth. She joined Palm from WebEx, where she was vice president of human resources.

Previously, Rena was vice president of human resources at MIPS at the time of its spin-out and IPO and was one of the original human resources leaders at SGI during the period of rapid growth when it reached $1 billion in revenue. She also held roles with Exxon Corporation's high-technology merger and acquisitions team.

She received a bachelor's degree in economics from the State University of New York at Geneseo and a master's degree in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University (Ithaca, N.Y.).

Way Ting
Senior Vice President of System Software
Palm, Inc.


Way brings a broad array of executive management and engineering leadership experience to his role as Palm’s senior vice president of system software. Over the last 10 years, Way has founded and led two startup companies. He was chief executive officer, director, and founder of Voxa, an enterprise application integration software company. Before establishing Voxa in May of 1999, he was the founding chief executive officer of Pictra, Inc., which launched a service that allowed customers and businesses to put digital photo albums online. Pictra was the first company to introduce this “publish and share” technology and is recognized as a pioneer in the field.

Prior to Pictra, Way was vice president and general manager of the Visual Magic Division of Silicon Graphics. Before that, he was vice president of engineering at Stardent Computer Corp., a manufacturer of high-end graphics workstations. He also spent nine years with AT&T/Bell Labs in New Jersey serving in various engineering and management capacities.

Way holds a Ph.D. in computer science from Cornell University.
