For persons with visual impairments, the TUNGSTEN C, Zire 71, TUNGSTEN T2, TUNGSTEN E and TUNGSTEN T3 provide the ability to adjust the color and contrast (brightness) of the device in order to meet the needs of the end user. The TUNGSTEN E and the TUNGSTEN T3 contain a transreflective screen which provides the highest level off clarity and color than any other Palm handheld. For users who are blind, handhelds by Palm provide the hardware and technology that can be adapted to assist with this disability. One key feature of the TUNGSTEN W is that is emulates a TTY devices capability. At the same time, the TUNGSTEN W can be utilized by third party service providers and third party TTY manufacturers with TTY (Touch Teletyping) devices. The TUNGSTEN T, TUNGSTEN T2 and TUNGSTEN T3 both contain bluetooth technology that we combined with a bluetooth enabled phone that is TTY compatible can additionally meet the needs of users with hearing impairments. |

This criteria will cause a "fundamental alteration of our products" and is exempt according to Subpart E, section 1194.3 (e) of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 508. For future product development, we are working on the ability to provide the compatibility, software support and technology that may allow third parties or ourselves to develop an application or device that can be used to assist persons who are blind or visually impaired with using our devices. This criteria will cause a "fundamental alteration of our products" and is exempt according to Subpart E, section 1194.3 (e) of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 508. For future product development, we are working on the ability to provide the compatibility, software support and technology that may allow third parties or ourselves to develop an application or device that can be used to assist persons who are blind or visually impaired with using our devices. Handhelds by Palm are visual products that communicate both graphically and textually. User hearing is not required for standard features with the exception of the TUNGSTEN W telecommunications feature. The Tungsten C, TUNGSTEN T, Zire 71 and TUNGSTEN T2 have an accessory headset device, speaker and/or a microphone jack that allows users to playback audio and or video files via third party applications. The TUNGSTEN W is capable of providing TTY compatibility both inherent in it's SMS capabilities but also through the connection of a digital TTY device. The TUNGSTEN C, TUNGSTEN T2 and TUNGSTEN T3 provide SMS capabilities that are comparable to TTY communications relays. |

Where audio information is important for the use of a product, at least one mode of operation and information retrieval shall be provided in an enhanced auditory fashion, or support for assistive hearing devices shall be provided.

Audio information designed for informational use, has the ability to be is adapted. For example, audible output can be raised or lowered, alarm sounds, confirmation beeps, alert vibration or LED lighting and tones can be manually adjusted to provide enhanced auditory assistance and/or alarming. The TUNGSTEN T, TUNGSTEN C, TUNGSTEN W, Zire 71, TUNGSTEN T2, TUNGSTEN E and TUNGSTEN T3 have a standard 2.5mm stereo headset jack built into the unit. Third party software is available that allows handheld by Palm with audio capabilities to retrieve information specific to the users needs. |

Handhelds by Palm are adaptable and compatible with devices designed by Palm Source and third parties providers. These devices may require fine motor skills or simultaneous actions in order to operate the unit. handheld by Palm can be used by persons with limited reach and strength. The TUNGSTEN C, TUNGSTEN T, TUNGSTEN W, TUNGSTEN T2, TUNGSTEN E (five way navigator) and TUNGSTEN T3 allow users to navigate with the use of a "Navigator" button. The Zire 71 contains a "Navigator" button in the form of a joystick. The navigator button or navigator joystick allows for one handed use and limited fine motor control. The TUNGSTEN C and the TUNGSTEN W features an ability to remap the character keys of the keyboard per personal preferences. The Zire 21 contains a touchpad that can be used with one hand to navigate through applications and product functions. |
