DataViz Announces Desktop To GoTM for PalmPilotTM from U.S.
Robotics®
Synchronize data between Microsoft® OutlookTM or
Lotus® OrganizerTM 97
and PalmPilot
Trumbull, CT (March 10, 1997) - DataViz announced today
Desktop To Go for
PalmPilot which includes synchronizers for Microsoft Outlook
and Lotus
Organizer 97. Any additions, modifications and/or deletions
made on either
the desktop or PalmPilot are automatically updated on both
machines. Desktop
To Go also utilizes PalmPilot's HotSyncTM technology for
push-button
synchronization.
Synchronization Options:
Desktop To Go provides a variety of synchronization options
for users. The
standard synchronization option reconciles any changes made
to either machine.
Alternatively, users can synchronize always using data from
either the
desktop or PalmPilot. Re-synchronization is a third option
to use when
various problems have occurred with data on either machine.
This mode will
synchronize and resolve conflicts such as duplicate records,
mass record loss,
etc.
Field Level Synchronization and Conflict Resolution:
Desktop To Go provides field level synchronization for
contacts, appointments,
tasks and memos. By using field level synchronization, a
conflict will occur
only when data has changed in the same field of a particular
record on both
machines. If a conflict does occur, Desktop To Go provides
the following
resolution options; the conflicting records are added as
duplicate records to
both machines, desktop data can override PalmPilot data, or
PalmPilot data can
override desktop data.
Field Mapping:
Desktop To Go provides user customizable field mapping.
Default field maps
are included for each type of data and can be easily
modified by the user for
mapping such things as custom fields. The Desktop To Go
field mapping dialog
also has the ability to map combined fields to individual
fields. For
example, a desktop application may have a field called Name
which contains
both the first name and last name. Desktop To Go can map
this field to the
PalmPilot's individual fields, First Name and Last Name.
Synchronization With Multiple PIMs:
Desktop To Go provides the ability to synchronize with
multiple desktop PIMs.
For example, one may choose to use Microsoft Outlook for
group scheduling,
Lotus Organizer for contacts, and the PalmPilot Desktop
application for To
Do's and Memos. Desktop To Go can be set up to synchronize
these different
applications with their respective counterparts on the
PalmPilot. In
addition, each type of data synchronization (i.e. contacts,
appointments,
etc.) can be independently configured with any of the
synchronization options
listed above.
Pricing and Availability:
Desktop To Go will be available directly from DataViz in
April and at all
major retail locations starting in May for around $50.
