PalmPilot Connected Organizer
IntelliSyncTM for Pilot Enables Direct "Content-Aware"
Synchronization Between
U.S. Robotics New PalmPilot Connected Organizer Models and
PC-Based Personal Information Management and Scheduling
Applications
SAN JOSE, Calif. (3/10/97) -Puma Technology, Inc.
(NASDAQ:PUMA), the leading provider of Mobile Data Exchange
software solutions, provides continued support for U.S.
Robotics' latest PalmPilotTM Connected Organizer models with
its flagship synchronization solution, IntelliSync for
Pilot. Puma continues to provide this unique out-of-the-box
synchronization support enabling direct content-aware
synchronization between the new PalmPilot
Professional/PalmPilot Personal models and numerous PC-based
personal information management (PIM), contact management
and group scheduling applications.
Puma introduced IntelliSync for Pilot for the first version
of U.S. Robotics' Pilot Connected Organizer in August 1996.
The Pilot quickly became a popular item in the mobile
computing marketplace and Puma's synchronization offering
has been widely adopted. With the availability of a broad
range of personal information management, contact
management, and group scheduling applications such as
DayTimer, Lotus Organizer 2.1, NetManage ECCO 3.03, Now
Up-to-Date, Schedule+, Sidekick, and others, Pilot users
will appreciate IntelliSync's ability to seamlessly
synchronize the data on their handheld device with the data
on their PC. Since the initial debut of IntelliSync for
Pilot, Puma has added new translators to the software to
support additional applications such as Lotus Organizer '97
and GoldMine. More translators will be developed later this
year to further extend the product's support of various
applications. In addition, Puma is working directly with
Novell to provide support for their GroupWise 5 Messaging
software. Users experience the ease of one-button
synchronization, taking full advantage of the Pilot's
HotSyncTM functionality to directly link contact management
and scheduling applications between a PC and the PalmPilot
connected organizer. Future users of the new PalmPilot
Personal and Professional devices will experience the same
seamless synchronization method via continued support by
IntelliSync for Pilot.
"We are truly excited to continue our partnership with U.S.
Robotics as the company brings forth new versions of its
popular handheld PalmPilot," said Brad Rowe, president and
CEO of Puma. "We have seen the positive impact that
IntelliSync has had on consumers of various handheld
devices, such as the Pilot. These users seek a simple
method to directly and accurately synchronize data from
their handheld devices to their PC. Puma has successfully
addressed the needs of the mobile computing marketplace with
its content-aware synchronization solution and is proud to
bring this solution to the new generation of PalmPilot
devices."
IntelliSync for Pilot is available either directly through
Puma Technology or from major computer superstores
nationwide. The product carries a suggested retail price of
$69.95.
IntelliSync for Pilot was the first member of Puma's
growing IntelliSync product family. IntelliSync's
technology is uniquely designed to eliminate the problems of
synchronizing data between a broad range of disparate
database applications and computer platforms. Through the
powerful universal IntelliSync engine, users will have the
ability to obtain instant upgrades for new applications in
the future. It is through this robust synchronization
engine that IntelliSync for Pilot is able to link directly
with popular PIMs and group schedulers to simultaneously
update changes between multiple applications on the
PalmPilot and a PC without intermediate conversions or
formats. Additionally, IntelliSync for Pilot automatically
resolves conflicts which can arise when synchronizing
information, such as an address change in two places
containing different "values." When such a conflict arises,
the user is notified and can then decide how to handle the
conflict.
"With the Pilot connected organizer and Puma's IntelliSync
offering, users of many popular personal information
managers will have the ability to take all their desktop
information with them in their pockets," said Ed Colligan,
vice president of marketing of Palm Computing, Inc., a
subsidiary of U.S. Robotics. "It's as simple as the push of
a button to keep your desktop calendar and contacts
synchronized with your mobile information."
The PalmPilot Personal and PalmPilot Professional
offerings, are two new models of U.S. Robotics'
award-winning PalmPilot Connected Organizer. These new
devices are handheld pocket-sized organizers that bring a new
level of functionality addressing the needs of the corporate
user, as well as individual consumers. Special features
include, support for e-mail, expense management software,
enhanced PIM applications with greater flexibility in data
entry and display, a backlit screen and docking cradle for
one-touch PC connectivity, for the MSRP of $299.
