Yahoo in deal to bring Internet content to PalmPilots
PALO ALTO, Calif., Dec 15 (Reuters) - Yahoo!
Inc, one of the most popular destinations for news
and information on the Internet, on Tuesday said it will offer an easier
way for
computer users to update scheduling and contact data on computers using the
Yahoo web site as a transfer point.
Yahoo (Nasdaq:YHOO - news) said it is introducing a test version of a
product that
will enable users to transfer information from Yahoo online calendars or
address
books into popular 3Com (Nasdaq:COMS - news) PalmPilot handheld computers
or other computer devices running Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) Outlook
software.
The company said it has developed the system in conjunction with Motorola
Inc.'s
(NYSE:MOT - news) recently acquired Starfish Software Inc., a developer of
software that synchronizes computer data on a range of computer devices.
The new product, called TrueSync for Yahoo, was designed for mobile
computer
users in and out of the office and to help save them the trouble of
duplicating dates
and addresses into multiple computers, the companies said.
Yahoo said the new technology simplifies the process of transferring
information
from a desktop computer to a portable computer device, requiring just a
single click
of an icon on the computer screen.
For example, office computer users could send scheduling information via
Yahoo to
a home computer or vice versa, eliminating the time-consuming task of
re-entering
scheduling or contact information on the home device.
