Tiger Woods Wins Palm Performance Award
Honored as Leading Performer on PGA TOUR's West Coast Swing
Carlsbad, California, USA - February 26, 2000 - Today the PGA TOUR and Palm, Inc., a 3Com company (NASDAQ: COMS) announced that Tiger Woods clinched the Palm Performance Award with his 4 and 3 victory over Shigeki Maruyama in the third round of the World Golf Championships- Andersen Consulting Match Play Championship.
The Palm Performance Award is presented to the player who earns the most cumulative points in the nine events that make up the PGA TOUR's West Coast Swing. Points are distributed to the top eight players each week with players earning 100 points for a victory down to 10 points for an eighth-place finish.
Denny Riley, Senior Director of OEM Sales for Palm, presented Woods with the Palm Performance Award, which includes a $200,000 bonus and an award- winning Palm VIITM handheld computer.
With victories in the Mercedes Championships and AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, Woods entered this week with 265 points. His win in yesterday's match ensured that he would earn at least 25 points this week.
Jesper Parnevik, winner of the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, and last week's Nissan Open champion, Kirk Triplett, entered the week as the only players with a chance to catch Woods. Parnevik was eliminated from contention with his 2 and 1 loss to Scott Hoch on Friday. Triplett was also eliminated with Woods' win today.
