FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Palm and Broadbeam to Extend the Palm VII Handheld to the Enterprise

Announce Special Developer Promotion to Jump Start Wireless Application Development

Santa Clara, CA and Princeton, NJ, August 23, 2000, Wireless Developer Show - Palm, Inc. (NASDAQ: PALM) and Broadbeam Corporation (formerly Nettech Systems) today announced an agreement through which Broadbeam will deliver wireless development tools for the Palm™ VII handheld computer. The solutions allow software vendors, system integrators and corporate IT departments to quickly and easily extend their enterprise applications to wireless Palm VII handhelds.

Palm is working with Broadbeam to rapidly develop wireless solutions to address the business needs of the enterprise. Many enterprise customers are seeking to extend applications beyond the desktop to mobile professionals who increasingly demand instant access to critical data. The form factor of the Palm VII handheld provides a compelling solution to enterprises that need the advantages provided by the Palm VII handheld's screen size, low cost, and simple integrated wireless operations. With the Broadbeam solutions, mobile professionals now have the ability to directly access secure enterprise applications as well as access web clipping content via the Palm.Net® service. This represents the first time that Palm VII handheld users will be able to simply and easily access enterprise applications, making the Palm VII handheld an ideal handheld for mobile professionals.

"Broadbeam is a premier provider of wireless solutions for the enterprise. Its wireless middleware, software developer partners, and wireless expertise further accelerate the expansion of the Palm economy into the enterprise," said Dennis Burns, Director, Wireless Enterprise Solutions at Palm. "This fits perfectly within our business plan to extend the wireless Palm VII handheld into the enterprise. Palm has a wireless solution focus on the enterprise and, along with its partners, will offer compelling vertical applications across many market segments including CRM, healthcare, fleet management/logistics, education, field service, and automotive."

As part of this new initiative, the companies announced a special promotion to jump start the development of wireless enterprise applications for the Palm VII handheld computer by corporate IT groups and independent software vendors. All developers who register for the promotion before September 15, 2000 will receive fifty percent off Broadbeam's Developer Suite for the Palm VII handheld, special developer pricing for the Palm.Net service during the development phase, and several other benefits. In addition, the first five applications certified by Broadbeam will receive marketing and sales support from Broadbeam and Palm in the form of a free station in Broadbeam's Solution Pavilion at the Wireless IT show and exposure on Broadbeam's Web site, along with three months of free "SystemsGo! Develop" hosting service, a free Palm VII handheld and other rewards.

"Our software partners have shown great interest in enabling their wireless applications to run on the Palm OS® platform, particularly for the Palm VII handheld," said Don Grust, senior vice president of Worldwide Business Development for Broadbeam. "We are co-sponsoring this promotion with Palm to demonstrate how easy it can be to develop wireless enterprise applications for the Palm VII handheld and to quickly bring a wide range of wireless solutions to market for Palm's customers."

Broadbeam is making both Smart IP® and ExpressQ™ available for all Palm handheld computers, including the Palm VII handheld. Smart IP extends the range of applications that run on the Palm VII handheld by offering support for a broad range of IP protocols and applications. ExpressQ extends enterprise applications into the field providing push and guaranteed message delivery, message queuing and more, in a fully scalable platform that integrates easily into backend systems.
