Google Search Engine Joins MyPalm Portal to Bring Wireless Web Content to Handheld Users
World's Largest Search Engine Integrated With MyPalm Portal;
Available Now for Free Download
LAS VEGAS, COMDEX, Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Google Inc., developer of the
award-winning Google search engine, and Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq: PALM), the world's
leading provider of handheld computers, today announced that the Google search
engine is featured in the new MyPalm(TM) portal. This agreement enables MyPalm
users with a wirelessly enabled Palm(TM) handheld to search the web with
Google's fast, highly relevant search engine technology.
The MyPalm portal is designed to help make the handheld computing
experience more fun and productive. The MyPalm portal enables users to
wirelessly access personalized information without relying on traditional
desktop-to-handheld synchronization technology.
Google's easy-to-use search technology enables MyPalm users to search
wirelessly for content on the Internet. Google automatically breaks up the
search results into several smaller pages to offer increased performance and
to conserve bandwidth. When a user clicks on a search result, the
corresponding web page is automatically converted into a format that is
optimized for viewing on Palm handhelds. Google's award-winning search engine
is the largest in the world and enables users to search more than
1.2 billion web pages while on the go.
"Google's search engine offers our users one of the most comprehensive,
easy-to-use wireless search experiences available today," said Frances Hoge,
vice president, content and marketing for Content and Access, of Palm, Inc.
"Coupled with our innovative content translation technology, Palm handheld
users can now quickly access and navigate the web-based information they
want."
"Both Palm and Google view information search and retrieval as a critical
component of the mobile online experience," said Sergey Brin, Google president
and co-founder. "The combination of Google and the MyPalm portal provides
quick access to the world's knowledge from your shirt pocket."
