Palm Believes NCR Suit Has No Merit
SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq: PALM)
believes the lawsuit filed March 14, 2001, by NCR Corporation against Palm and
Handspring Inc. has no merit. NCR alleged that Palm's and Handspring's
handheld computers infringe two NCR-owned patents for a type of "portable
personal terminal." Palm was not approached by NCR about the patents prior to
filing its suit.
"Palm will defend itself vigorously," said Stephen Yu, Palm's general
counsel.
This press release contains forward-looking statements within the meaning
of the federal securities laws, including Palm's beliefs that its products do
not infringe the NCR patents and the lawsuit is without merit and Palm's
intentions regarding its defense against the allegations. These statements are
subject to risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results and events
to differ materially, including, among others, the difficulty to predict the
results of complex legal proceedings, the results of further investigations
and the availability of defenses.
