Bluefish, MercuryGuide and Palm Beam Salt Lake City Guides To Palm Powered Handhelds

SALT LAKE CITY, XIX Winter Olympics, Feb. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Palm Powered(TM) handheld owners attending the XIX Winter Olympics here in Salt Lake City can now receive up-to-date local and Olympics information on their handhelds through infrared access points citywide.

Bluefish Wireless Inc., developer of a communication platform that enables delivery of information and content through the infrared ports of handheld computers, MercuryGuide, a leading provider of interactive event guides for handheld computers, and Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq: PALM), a leading provider of handheld computers, today announced that 60 access points have been placed in high-profile Salt Lake City locations for thousands of visitors to conveniently download SLC Mobile, an application that brings together the best of what Salt Lake City has to offer.

SLC Mobile contains top news stories from Deseret News; ski resort information; snowfall and weather reports; Winter Olympics schedules; event results; and valued local information, such as a restaurant and attraction guide and a UTA Trax light rail schedule. Users also will be able to choose from a menu of additional optional content to be downloaded onto their handhelds.

"There is so much to do in Salt Lake City at this time, and we are making it easy for Palm Powered handheld owners to keep up on all of the excitement," said Phil Webb, director of technology at MercuryGuide. "Plus, with the added value of enabling users to choose additional content, we're delivering a customized user experience."

The Bluefish network enables frequent updates for time-sensitive material. Auto-generated content is managed remotely and wirelessly sent to access points multiple times daily so users will always receive the most up-to-date news and event information.

"The Winter Olympics provides an excellent venue to showcase the benefits of the Bluefish network and Bluefish platform publishers like MercuryGuide," said James Fisher, chief executive officer of Bluefish Wireless. "With so much happening at once, it's important to have the latest information readily available to handheld users, and we've made that process easy."

"The infrared ports built into all Palm(TM) handhelds are an excellent mechanism for data exchange," said Claudia Romanini, senior director of Custom Solutions at Palm, Inc. "With the services provided by Bluefish and MercuryGuide, all Palm handheld owners who visit Salt Lake City will have the distinct advantage of having a guide and the latest news at their fingertips."
