Colligo Networks Licenses Portable Collaboration Applications to Palm, Inc. CANNES, France, 3GSM Conference, Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Colligo Networks,
Inc., a provider of collaboration software for mobile workers, today announced
that Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq: PALM), a leading provider of handheld computers, has
licensed Colligo's Portable Collaborative Networking (PCN) applications to
bring a new type of Bluetooth short-range wireless solution to business
professionals. The software applications enable fast and easy information exchange among
Palm(TM) handhelds equipped with the Palm Bluetooth Card. BlueChat, a private
messaging and chat application, and BlueBoard, a portable whiteboard that
allows users to share images in real time, will ship with the Palm Bluetooth
Card. The card, based on the SDIO specification, can be slipped into Palm
handhelds that have the Palm Expansion Card Slot, such as the Palm m125, m500,
m505, i705 and future handhelds. The Palm Bluetooth Card and Colligo's
applications are scheduled to be available in many countries beginning March
4, 2002 and will be available at a later date in the United States. "We selected Colligo Networks because they are pioneers in a new class of
peer-to-peer software applications that have the potential to improve the way
mobile professionals share information," said Paul Leeper, director of Market
Development, Custom Solutions, at Palm, Inc. "Our successful relationship with
Colligo has resulted in two unique Portable Collaboration applications for the
Palm Bluetooth Card that allow groups of people to collaborate quickly, easily
and securely within 10 meters, or about 30 feet." Colligo 's Portable Collaboration applications provide a secure, reliable
and optimized solution for real-time business computing. For Palm, Colligo has
enabled users to take advantage of easy-to-use applications to send private
messages, chat or exchange drawings among handhelds at the tap of a stylus.
Unlike most software and services available today, Colligo provides business
users with a convenient way to wirelessly increase work efficiency without
having to connect to wide area wireless networks. "Colligo's software is innovative and well-timed. Enterprises and
consumers alike continue to purchase mobile devices, and are quickly
discovering that compelling software applications add to productivity. To that
end, we believe Colligo's software bundled with Palm's Bluetooth Card offers a
unique and highly effective solution for ad-hoc communication among people
working in remote business meetings," said Joyce Putscher, director of
In-Stat's Converging Markets & Technologies Research Group. "More than ever before, business is taking place outside of traditional
meeting spaces," said Barry Jinks, president and chief executive officer at
Colligo Networks, Inc. "As businesses look to increase effectiveness and keep
costs down they are finding that mobile devices, coupled with portable
collaboration software, can help. Together, Palm and Colligo are enabling easy
and convenient data exchange for business users to become more productive
while away from their desks." Colligo's PCN solutions can be tailored to meet the specific needs of
enterprises and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), such as Palm.
Colligo's software works on a wide range of devices, including laptops and
handheld devices, over corporate networks, wireless LANs and peer-to-peer
wireless connections. Colligo recently announced that it has licensed Portable
Collaboration software to a Big 5 Accounting Firm to operate on laptops that
communicate over corporate and 802.11 wireless LANs.
