Palm Gives Educators at FETC New Reasons to Go Mobile Leaders Choose Palm
ORLANDO, Fla., March 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq: PALM)
is giving educators and administrators new reason to integrate Palm(TM)
handheld technology into their schools today with its announcement of the
results of a landmark SRI International study that measures the impact of
handheld computers on teaching and learning (see separate release). Palm will hold a news briefing here at the Florida Educational Technology
Conference (FETC), which runs today through Friday at the Orange County
Convention Center, to discuss the findings of this first-of-a-kind study. The
press conference will take place today at 10 a.m. in Room 224C, North D2. The
study was based on data gleaned from grant recipients of the Palm Education
Pioneer (PEP) program. SRI International's Center for Technology in Learning
(CTL) in Menlo Park, Calif., is administering and evaluating the program to
study the learning uses, experiences and effectiveness of handhelds for
teaching and learning. Palm also will showcase recently announced products: the Palm Bluetooth
Card, which is an SDIO card that allows new levels of wireless communication,
collaboration and connection, and two color handhelds. The Palm m130 and m515
color handhelds feature bright color screens, Palm's dual-expansion technology
for customization and expanded functionality, and the Personal Information
Manager (PIM) and user interface that have made Palm products the world's
favorite handheld computers. The Palm m130 and m515 handhelds are available
now in most countries worldwide for an estimated U.S. street price of $279 and
$399, respectively. "The new color handhelds and Palm Bluetooth Card, along with an
outstanding array of top third-party software solutions, enable better
mobility, versatility and choice for educators and administrators than any
other handheld solution on the market," said Mike Lorion, vice president of
education at Palm, Inc. "Palm handhelds are affordable and easy to integrate
into curricula, and they offer real value across the education continuum, from
teaching and learning to administration." Some of Palm's most innovative developers will show mobile and wireless
software solutions that expand Palm handheld versatility for educators and
administrators at the press conference and throughout the show in Palm's
booth, No. 701. Joining Palm are Grant Street Software LLC, Handmark, Inc.,
ImagiWorks, Inc. and Media-X Systems; products from Bluefish Wireless,
Infinity Softworks, Inc., Palm Digital Media, Pico Communications, Sunburst
Technology, Trivantis Corporation and Wireless Generation also will be shown. Palm also announced today that it is working with the state of Alaska,
through its Alaska Staff Development Network, to provide school principals and
administrators statewide with Palm handhelds as an easy way to access the
information they need to help students improve their performance on state and
national tests (see separate release).
