Press Release

Registration Opens for PalmSource Europe Developer Forums Berlin, Paris and London Events Scheduled for May
SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- With more than
44,000 members of the Palm OS(R) development community in Europe,
PalmSource, Inc. announced it will host two-day developer conferences in
Berlin, Paris and London. Called the PalmSource(R) Europe Forum Series, the
conferences will help developers take full advantage of the potential of
Palm OS, the leading platform that in the last year alone has powered
1.25 million of the mobile devices sold in Western Europe (1). Independent
software vendors, corporate in-house developers and systems integrators will
learn about the advanced wireless, security and multimedia capabilities of
Palm OS 5, the latest version of the world's leading handheld operating
system, created to enable a new class of handheld devices and smart phones. "PalmSource is, above all, a collaborative event. With almost 400
European developers joining the Palm OS community each week, it's essential
that as many developers as possible participate in the forums," said
Gabriel Acosta-Lopez, senior director of Platform Development Services at
PalmSource, Inc. "Bringing the forums to the developers makes it easier for
them to learn about Palm OS 5, which is the foundation for building the next
generation of mobile devices."
The forums will enable participants to do the following: Keynote Talks: Understand PalmSource's vision and the competitive
landscape for the growing mobile computing market. Technical Sessions: Learn about Palm OS 5 and the roadmaps for the
Palm OS, security, wireless and Bluetooth, and other emerging technologies. Open Laboratory: Ask questions of Palm OS experts while testing
applications on ARM-compliant processors. Exhibition: See the latest devices from Palm OS licensees, as well as new
applications and development tools. Palm OS 5 Development Tools: Receive a Palm OS 5 Compatibility CD, with
tools that will help reduce development time and take full advantage of the
potential of Palm OS 5.

Palm OS 5
Palm OS 5 is the platform for the next generation of handhelds and smart
phones. Where Palm OS 4 runs solely on the Motorola 68000 processor,
Palm OS 5 runs on a range of ARM-compliant processors from Intel, Motorola and
Texas Instruments. Now licensees such as Handspring, Palm, Sony and others
can choose from a variety of processor speeds, from 70 megahertz to 700
megahertz, to build different devices at a gamut of price points. Even with
multimedia, wireless and security enhancements, Palm OS 5 retains the small
footprint, long battery life and modest hardware requirements for which the
Palm OS platform is known. More than 13,000 software programs run on the Palm OS platform, eight
times more than any other handheld platform. Software programs that comply
with Palm OS 4 application programming interfaces (APIs) are expected to work
smoothly on Palm OS 5. Compatibility tools will enable developers to test
their applications to ensure continued support for the 21 million Palm
Powered(TM) devices sold worldwide, as well as to provide future support for
new handhelds and smart phones.
