MILPITAS, Calif., May 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- palmOne, Inc.
(Nasdaq: PLMO) today announced the recent promotion of John Hartnett to senior
vice president, Americas, and the recent appointment of Mark Bercow as senior
vice president, Business Development. Both report to Ed Colligan, palmOne
president and chief executive officer.
Hartnett brings more than 20 years' experience across sales, marketing and
operations. Most recently, he was vice president of eCommerce and accessory
solutions at palmOne, where he also was responsible for driving the expansion
of palmOne's airport-based retail stores in the Americas. His new
responsibilities include palmOne sales and customer support, including the
retail channel, distribution, carrier sales and eCommerce in the United
States, Canada and Latin America. Hartnett joined the company upon the
acquisition of Handspring, Inc., in October 2003. He had been Handspring's
executive vice president of worldwide operations, service, support and
eCommerce.
Before entering the mobile-computing industry, Hartnett was senior vice
president of U.S. marketing, support and operations for MetaCreations. Prior
to MetaCreations, he was the director of international operations at Claris.
Hartnett earned a marketing degree from the Marketing Institute of Ireland
and also is a graduate of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants
and Stanford University's executive-management program. He was selected by
Irish America in 2004 as one of the year's top Irish American business people
in its annual Business 100 awards.
Bercow returns to palmOne after an absence of nearly five years. He had
been the Palm vice president of strategic alliances and platform development
in 2000. In that position, he was responsible for the creation of the Palm
Economy and attracted more than 100,000 registered developers to Palm OS(R).
Prior to rejoining palmOne, he was a vice president at Intuit, Inc., where he
helped establish, grow and serve the Intuit Developer Network. Prior to
Intuit, he was vice president of marketing and business development for
Atheros Communications, an early stage wireless semiconductor startup. His
responsibilities included marketing, product marketing strategy, segmentation
and business development.
His new responsibilities include corporate development, strategic
alliances, platform-growth strategies and developer relations.
Bercow holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from
California State University, Northridge. He will speak May 24 at the
PalmSource Mobile Summit & DevCon 2005 in San Jose, Calif.
"Mark and John bolster our executive team with their strategic insights
and their high level of execution," Colligan said. "Both hit the ground
running since they have a broad array of experience in the handheld and
smartphone arenas. I'm confident they can help increase the momentum we are
experiencing at palmOne."
