Smartphones Help Employees Improve Workflow Productivity and Data-collection Capabilities While Working Offsite
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 10, 2006--
Humane Society of the United States Employees Use Palm
Treo Smartphones with GoodLink on the Nationwide Cingular
Wireless EDGE Network
Today, Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq:PALM) announced that the Humane Society
of the United States (HSUS) is using Palm(R) Treo(TM) smartphones to
increase workflow productivity by enabling employees to collect
information while out in the field and share it with press, customers
and colleagues on the spot.(1) For emergency management and general
business, the nation's largest animal-protection organization relies
on Treo smartphones with Bluetooth(R) headsets, running on the
nationwide(2) Cingular Wireless EDGE network with Good Technology's
robust wireless email software and service, GoodLink(TM).
After evaluating several competing options, HSUS chose the
Treo/GoodLink solution because of its ease of use, flexibility and
all-in-one form factor. Employees working in field services,
communications and legislative affairs as well as senior executives
organizationwide use the solution for access to email, contacts,
calendaring, instant messaging, tracking and phone for emergency
management.(1)
"The Humane Society of the United States protects animals 24 hours
a day, seven days a week around the globe," said Laura Folden,
director of IT for HSUS. "Without our Treo smartphones, it would have
been nearly impossible to keep up the pace over the last year,
especially given the scope of our disaster-response efforts. Treo
smartphones created a surge in our communications and productivity."
HSUS needed a simple, affordable and reliable way for its highly
mobile staff to stay in touch, even in disaster areas where power for
laptops and traditional phone lines is unavailable. Treo smartphones
were crucial during and after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Employees
were working 24 hours a day managing calls, searching for and rescuing
animals. With so many HSUS staff traveling, they needed email access
to stay in touch with vendors, constituents, animal shelters and
people who needed assistance.
With the all-in-one power of Treo smartphones on the Cingular EDGE
network now at their fingertips, HSUS staff effectively manages
emergencies, tracks disaster information, stays abreast of breaking
developments, communicates with the press and receives HSUS monitor
alerts via text.
"Treo smartphones give mobile professionals, like those at HSUS,
the freedom to leave their laptops behind and still stay connected to
the office and the critical information they need most," said Tara
Griffin, vice president of enterprise markets for Palm, Inc. "With
Treo smartphones, HSUS emergency workers are readily available to
coordinate animal-rescue efforts, especially in disaster-ridden areas
with no power."
More than 8,000 companies have deployed the Treo/GoodLink solution
to take advantage of Palm's expanding product portfolio and business
solutions for mobile professionals. Palm's flexible, standards-based
approach and customer-centric model meets the needs of mobile
professionals at small, medium and large global businesses.
