HANDSPRING AND XCELLENET PARTNER TO DELIVER ASSET MANAGEMENT TO ENTERPRISE CUSTOMERS
Atlanta and Mountain View, Calif. (February 12, 2002) Handspring (NASDAQ: HAND) and XcelleNet, Inc., a leading provider of management solutions for the distributed enterprise, today announced a sales and marketing relationship focused on providing companies using Handspring Treo communicators and Visor handhelds with the ability to centrally manage their mobile assets. The companies will work together to market XcelleNet's mobile device and data management software and Handspring's products. The combined solution will be designed to help Handspring and XcelleNet customers increase productivity and reduce operating costs associated with deploying handheld and wireless products in the enterprise.
XcelleNet helps businesses overcome the challenges of extending enterprise applications and data to mobile workers with tools for synchronizing content and data, deploying and maintaining software applications and business documents, tracking hardware and software device assets, backing up critical content and data, and maintaining desired configuration settings. XcelleNet's solutions enable enterprises to extend essential systems and data management capabilities out to a comprehensive array of mobile devices including handhelds, smart phones, interactive pagers and laptops.
"As handheld devices and wireless applications begin to be deployed in the enterprise at a large scale it is crucial that companies establish a system to manage and effectively deploy those solutions," said Lee Epting, vice president of strategic alliances for Handspring. "By partnering with XcelleNet, a leading company in this category, we will be able to offer a package of devices and data solutions as well as industry leading asset management tools."
"Handspring products are a strong choice for enterprise use due to the flexibility of the Springboard platform on the Visor line and the power of wireless integration in the Treo family of communicators," said Joan Herbig, CEO of XcelleNet. "With these devices becoming a more significant part of a company's information infrastructure, it is critical that the handheld, along with the applications and corporate data it contains, be centrally managed and controlled. By providing XcelleNet's device and data management software when solutions are deployed, businesses will be able to achieve the productivity and cost savings that drive a high return on investment while truly mobilizing their workers."
Handspring's Treo communicators and Visor handhelds are uniquely positioned in the enterprise market due to the flexibility of the platform, the broad selection of more than 70 Springboard expansion modules, thousands of Palm OS applications, and the innovative design and user experience built into the product families. Both Treo and Visor offer elegant solutions, while also encouraging cost savings and streamlined IT management. The consistency of the Springboard architecture in the Visor family ensures that expansion solutions can be used across the organization while standardizing on one handheld computer. Treo brings a greater level of usability, convenience and value by combining a powerful organizer with advanced wireless voice and data applications while maintaining a compact size.
