HANDSPRING ANNOUNCES EUROPEAN E-COMMERCE AFFILIATE PROGRAMME
Company extends Internet presence through independent web referral programme,
shares online revenue with affiliate partners
GENEVA, SWITZERLAND (15 May 2001) - Handspring International Sarl. (NASDAQ:
HAND), today announced a new affiliate programme enabling a wide variety of
companies, organisations and individuals to market the Handspring Visor handheld
computer, select Springboard expansion modules and Handspring accessories by
posting links to www.handspring.co.uk on their Web sites. The rapid development
of the Internet as a sales channel has fostered the creation of revenue sharing
models between manufacturers and partners. The programme is designed to allow
partners to share in the success of the Springboard expansion platform and to
fuel the continued momentum of Handspring's online sales. Modeled after a similar
programme in the US launched last year, the European Handspring Affiliate Programme
is open to all qualified Web sites at no charge. Affiliates earn commission
each time a referred customer makes a purchase from Handspring's UK site, details
for participation are available at www.handspring.co.uk.
"The commission Handspring is offering to participating affiliates provides
one of the most attractive deals on the Internet," said Karsten Jonsen,
Handspring e-commerce manager. "By allowing partners to benefit from the
popularity of Visor handheld computers and the Springboard platform we expect
wide participation. This will ultimately translate into greater opportunities
for customers to purchase Visors and attractive revenue opportunities for our
affiliates."
Through the programme, affiliate partners can earn 8% commission on each sale
every time a Handspring product is bought based on a referral from the affiliate
site. In financial terms, this represents a commission of £27.20 on the
sale of a £340 Visor Prism - the company believes the programme offers
participating affiliates one of the highest per unit commission rates available
today through Internet affiliate programmes. In addition, Handspring will provide
a selection of Handspring banners and links that affiliates may place on their
sites to attract customers to the offer. The entire order transaction and fulfillment
process to get the product to the customer will be provided according to the
existing quality standards of Handspring. The partners of Handspring's affiliate
programme in Europe are LinkShare, a premier affiliate marketing programme provider
and Pixelpark UK, the selected marketing partner for this programme.
To qualify for the programme, interested participants should read the affiliate
agreement available at www.handspring.co.uk, fill out an online application
form and follow the step-by-step process outlined in an e-mail they will receive
shortly thereafter. A coded Web link to Handspring.co.uk will be provided to
all qualifying affiliates, enabling site visitors to order Visor Solo, Visor,
Visor Deluxe, Visor Prism, Visor Platinum and the new Visor Edge in addition
to a wide range of modules and accessories.
