HANDSPRING OFFERS AGGRESSIVE E-COMMERCE AFFILIATE PROGRAM TO FUEL ONLINE VISOR SALES
Company extends Web presence to broader demographics through independent web referral program
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF. (August 7, 2000) - Handspring, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAND) today announced a new affiliate program enabling a wide variety of companies, organizations and individuals to market the Handspring Visor handheld computer, select Springboard expansion modules and Handspring accessories by posting links on their own Web sites that direct customers to Handspring.com. Designed to allow Handspring supporters to share in the success of the Springboard expansion platform and to help fuel the continued momentum of Handspring's online sales, the affiliate program officially began Wednesday, August 2, 2000 and is open to all qualified Web sites at no charge. Each time a referred customer makes a purchase from the Handspring site, affiliates earn a referral fee. Details concerning the affiliate program are available at www.handspring.com/affiliates.
Handspring will use the program to communicate the advantages of Visor and the Springboard expansion platform to an even broader range of consumers. Through the program, affiliates can earn money every time a Handspring product is bought based on a referral from their site. Affiliates can determine the placement of the Handspring banners and links on their site while Handspring will manage the entire order transaction and fulfillment process once the customer has been referred to Handspring.com. As a special launch promotion, charter affiliates will receive a 10% referral fee for new customers and a 5% referral fee for repeat customers through December 31, 2000. After that time, all affiliates will receive an 8% referral fee on each new sale and a 5% referral fee on repeat sales.
"This affiliate program allows us to extend the reach of Handspring.com to more and more people while giving our affiliate partners a way to share in the success of Visor and the Springboard platform," said Kendall Fargo, vice president, e-Commerce. "With a wide variety of web sites promoting Visor to an even broader range of demographics, people can now reach Handspring through multiple new paths."
To qualify for the affiliate program, interested participants need to read the operating agreement available at www.handspring.com/affiliates, fill out an online application form and follow the step-by-step process outlined in an e-mail they will receive shortly thereafter. A web link to Handspring.com will be provided to all qualifying affiliates, enabling customers to order Visor Solo, Visor and Visor Deluxe in addition to select modules and accessories.
