HANDSPRING AND DEVELOPER PARTNERS DEBUT BROAD ARRAY OF WIRELESS SPRINGBOARD SOLUTIONS
Springboard developers demonstrate wireless communications solutions including
phones, modems and pagers at GlobalXChange, Chicago
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF. (September 27, 2000) - Handspring, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAND) and a number of Springboard module developers will introduce several wireless solutions for the Visor handheld computer today at the GlobalXChange exhibition in Chicago. Ranging from mobile and cordless phones to modems and pagers, this new generation of wireless-enabled Springboard modules will bring robust new voice and data communications capabilities to the Springboard platform, further illustrating the vast expandability and flexibility of the Visor product line. Participating Springboard developer partners will join Handspring to demonstrate these solutions at booth #4540 in the main exhibit hall at McCormick Place.
In addition to the VisorPhone module introduced by Handspring earlier this week, which brings voice communications to Visor, Handspring and its developer partners will highlight solutions including web browsing, remote email access, paging and integrated phone and PIM applications. Many of these solutions will be announced for the first time at GlobalXChange, including the SB1000, a CDMA module by Airprime, the Parafone cordless phone module by Arkon, a wireless adapter with internet access from GoAmerica and Sierra Wireless, the WIPClip CDPD modem by Tellus and a 3G reference design by Texas Instruments.
Previously announced modules on exhibit include the Minstrel S wireless modem by Novatel, the @ctivelink communication module by Glenayre, the Xircom SpringPort Modem 56k GlobalAccess, and the Infomitt pager by Remote Solution. In addition, AvantGo, FusionOne, and Omnisky will demonstrate software and services that work in conjunction with many of these wireless-enabled modules to bring additional web browsing and email access capabilities to Visor.
"The range of solutions our partners are demonstrating here this week is proof of the simplicity and versatility of the Springboard platform and its ability to accommodate the full range of wireless standards," said Lee Epting, director of developer relations for Handspring. "These new offerings exemplify the significant progress Handspring and our developers have made in achieving true wireless mobility for Visor customers."
