HANDSPRING TO SELL VISOR AND SHOWCASE SPRINGBOARD SOLUTIONS AT COMDEX 2000
Twenty Companies to demonstrate Springboard modules in Handspring Booth #L5650
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF. (November 10, 2000) - Continuing its efforts to bring its popular Visor handheld computers to everyone, everywhere with key retail partnership agreements, Handspring will become the first COMDEX exhibitor ever to sell product on the trade show floor. In an exclusive agreement with the conference organizers, the company has secured the only retail space at the country's largest annual computer industry tradeshow to be held next week in Las Vegas, Nevada. Visors, select Springboard modules and Visor accessories and COMDEX merchandise will be sold from two locations - one in the main hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center and another in the lobby of the Sands Hotel. The Handspring Store will be open daily from Sunday through Friday.
"Handspring has presented itself as one of the most compelling consumer-focused computer companies in the past year with the launch of its Visor product line," said Bill Sell, vice president and general manager of COMDEX. "When they approached us about providing a value-add retail location we were confident that they would enhance the overall experience at the 2000 show."
At the Handspring booth, the newly expanded Visor family will be on display with a variety of Springboard expansion modules that show the rapidly growing scope of handheld computing and the building momentum of Springboard as a standard for expansion in the industry. Twenty different companies will demonstrate modules, services or Visor accessories there as well. Over thirty-five Springboard modules have been announced to date. Many Springboard solutions at the Handspring booth will highlight wireless communications capabilities, such as Handspring's recently announced VisorPhone module that brings the power of voice communications to handheld computing. Solutions from third-party developers include wireless and wireline modems, global positioning systems, a digital camera, MP3 players, bar code scanners, pagers, Bluetooth communications systems and games. Additionally, several developers are expected to announce new products at COMDEX.
