HANDSPRING HANDHELD COMPUTERS TO BE SOLD BY NUMBER ONE RETAILER
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF. (Nov. 13, 2000) - In its continued effort to extend handheld computing to a greater consumer audience, Handspring, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAND) today announced reseller agreements with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., a leading global retailer, and Wal-Mart.com, Wal-Mart's online retail site. Starting later this month, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. will begin selling Visor handheld computers, accessories, and select Springboard expansion modules in 500 stores nationwide, adding significantly to Handspring's increasingly strong U.S. retail presence.
Handspring will also reach an even broader online audience through Walmart.com. At the site, customers can browse, find, and buy Handspring products, accessories, and third-party Springboard modules that may not be found in all Wal-Mart retail stores. Walmart.com offers Handspring a new opportunity to sell products to a growing base of handheld users who are loyal Wal-Mart customers and online users. The arrangement provides consumers access to Handspring products at anywhere, any time while ensuring friendly and reliable Wal-Mart customer service.
Greg Woock, vice president of North American sales for Handspring, said, "As the handheld computing market continues to grow, relationships with global retail leaders like Wal-Mart will help extend Handspring's reach into the consumer market. Wal-Mart offers a unique geographic profile that puts Handspring where people want to buy handheld computers, both in-store and online and affords us the opportunity to expand into diverse markets where we have not yet established inroads."
This agreement is a key component of Handspring's continuing focus on reaching a broader customer base through mass merchandisers that will help increase overall consumer interest in handheld computers worldwide.
