Handspring Visor is one of the most rapidly adopted computer hardware products in history; Online charity event to benefit Special Olympics Northern California

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF. (December 6, 2000) - Handspring, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAND) today announced that the one millionth Visor handheld computer and first VisorPhone Springboard expansion module to be shipped are up for sale on eBay (NASDAQ: EBAY; www.ebay.com), the world's leading online trading community. All proceeds raised from the sale will be donated to Special Olympics Northern California. As one of the fastest selling computer hardware products ever, the Handspring Visor reached the mark of one million sold in little over one year.

Both the one millionth Visor and the first VisorPhone are signed by Jeff Hawkins, founder of Handspring and Palm Computing and inventor of the original handheld computer. The five-day auction begins today and ends on Monday, December 11, 2000. The items are listed on eBay at http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/handspring. The listing can also be found linked from eBay's "Photo & Electronics" category under the "Photo & Consumer Electronics Spotlight," eBay's charity page, and eBay's holiday page.

"We are delighted to celebrate two major milestones for Handspring in a way that gives back to our local community," said Karen Sipprell, vice president of corporate marketing for Handspring. "There's been tremendous interest in our newest Springboard expansion module, the VisorPhone, and we thought this event on eBay would be the perfect way to leverage that on behalf of Special Olympics Northern California."

"This holiday season, we've already seen a large increase in the number of users turning to eBay to find unique and exciting gifts, and we're pleased to bring our community a piece of technology history in time for the holidays," said Bob Hebeler, vice president of category and community development for eBay. "Handspring Visors and Springboard modules are hot sellers on eBay, and I think that our community will enjoy the opportunity to own or give as a gift the one millionth Visor and the first VisorPhone ever sold."

The one millionth Handspring Visor to be shipped is a Visor Prism, Handspring's first color-enabled product. Visor Prism features 16-bit color and displays more than 65,000 colors for viewing picture-quality graphics, as well as vivid games and maps. It retails for about $449.

The VisorPhone Springboard expansion module combines the power of voice communications with the simplicity and versatility of the Visor handheld computer. VisorPhone is a compact expansion module that snaps into the Springboard expansion slot of a Visor handheld computer so people can use Visor to make and receive phone calls. VisorPhone combines two mobile products into one, creating a single integrated product for all voice and handheld computing needs. The VisorPhone is expected to ship in the United States by the end of this year and will retail for about $299 with service activation.
