Questions and answers.

Do I need to convert my files to view them on my Treo smartphone?
Using the Documents To Go® 8 software suite, all files are accessed in their native format. "Native" indicates that a file is in its original desktop format, specifically Microsoft Word® (.DOC), Excel (.XLS), PowerPoint (.PPT), or Adobe® PDF (.PDF).

Before native document support, Microsoft documents had to be converted on the desktop to a special format (Word To Go™, Sheet To Go™), and then synchronized to the device. But now, with native document support, no desktop conversion is needed, so you should immediately be able to open files sent to you as email attachments, or files on an expansion card, or files downloaded from the web.2

Native documents are optimized on the device for on-screen viewing. Though when the file is closed, it is still a .doc, .ppt, or .xls file.

Can I use the optimized file format to save space?
If you choose to, you can still work with documents in a non-native format. This is helpful when you need to beam a large document to another Palm OS® device with limited space. It's also ideal when you want to save space on your own device.
