Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Palm product design and manufacturing |
Palm products will not intentionally contain any banned substances. Palm restricts the use of specific substances via its General Environmental Specification. Palm has instituted programs with its suppliers to ensure that products are designed and manufactured according to global environmental laws and regulations. Palm uses independent lab testing on selective components to verify banned substance compliance of its products.
RoHS COMPLIANCE (Directive 2002/95/EC)
Palm, Inc. will design and manufacture products in accordance with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS). This includes the introduction of Lead(Pb)-free products. Directive 2002/95/EC applies to European Union member nations but is being partially or wholly adapted by other countries and jurisdictions.
The purpose of the RoHS Directive is the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances and to reduce the waste management problems linked to substances likely to pose risks to health and the environment. The RoHS Directive specifically addresses the reduction of use and ultimate banning of the following substances: Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), Cadmium (Cd), Hexavalent Chromium (Cr+6), PBB (Polybrominated Biphenyls) and PBDE (Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers) in electrical and electronic products.
