Secure File PDA Backup Card Update

Posted November 26, 2003

This update addresses an incompatibility discovered between some releases of the Secure File PDA Backup card and Tungsten E handhelds. The incompatibility creates a condition where the Palm Photos application (installed from the Tungsten E CD) cannot be backed-up or restored.

This update replaces key application files on the Secure File PDA Backup Card and cannot be reversed once applied. However, the update will not delete nor modify any previously backed-up data on the card.

Once the update is complete, photos stored by the Palm Photos application can be backed up and restored. Please note that if a full restore of the handheld is necessary, the photos in Palm Photos would be restored correctly but the application would not; in such a situation, the Palm Photos application simply needs to be reloaded from the CD onto the handheld.

System Requirements
The Secure File PDA Backup Card requires the following minimum system requirements:
  • Tungsten E handheld
  • Secure File PDA Backup card, with Backup Plus version 1.1

  • - And -
  • PC running Windows 98/NT 4.0/2000/Me/XP

  • - Or -
  • Mac OS X (version 10.1.2 or higher)

  • - Or -
  • Mac OS 9 (version 9.1 and higher)

Important: This update is ONLY for users of Tungsten E handhelds who use the Secure File PDA Backup card with version 1.1 of the Backup Plus application, as more recent versions of the card will already include the update. Applying the update to other handhelds and/or to other expansion cards was not tested and may cause loss of functionality.

To check the version of Backup Plus in use on the Secure File PDA Backup card, simply insert the card (the application will start automatically). From the Options menu, select About Backup Plus. In the About Backup Plus screen, the version number will be displayed. This update is needed for version 1.1 only. Version 1.1c (or any version number greater than 1.1) indicates that the card already incorporates the update, and this update is therefore not necessary in such a situation.
