Download & Install
Daylight Saving Time Update for Palm OS Devices

Before you begin
- Verify that Calendar events on your Palm device and desktop computer coincide.
- In the event of a hard reset, this update will need to be installed and run again on your device.
- Treo 700p and 680 users: If you've already installed the Treo 700p Update (info), or the Treo 680 Update (info), you do not need this Daylight Saving Time update - it's included.
- Palm Desktop users: You may experience shifting Calendar events during the periods of 3/11/07 to 4/1/07 and 10/28/07 to 11/4/07.
What does this update do?
- Replaces the old DST rule with new DST rule on your device. Then it notifies the Date & Time application that DST rule change occurred.
- Replaces the old DST rule embedded in any Calendar events that occur after March 11, 2007 (when the DST change begins). This allows events within the DST rule change window to remain at their original times.

It is always a good idea to make a backup of your important information. Prior to installing this update, Palm recommends backing up your Calendar events, or printing them out for reference, in the event that Calendar information is lost. To back up your Calendar by exporting it, see Knowledge Library article 28751: Export PIM data.

Over The Air:
First: Update Windows and Exchange Server
Before you install the Daylight Saving Time Update, you may need to install two Microsoft updates in order for your system to reflect the DST rule changes. You'll need to do this from your desktop PC (not your Palm device).
Contact your organization's IT department before installing these Microsoft updates. If you have any questions about the updates, consult with Microsoft or your IT department. These updates are not affiliated with Palm.

If I use Exchange Server to schedule Outlook events, do the server and client PC need to be updated at the same time?
|
|
No, the client PC and Exchange server do not need to be updated at the same time. However, there is a certain sequence to the updating.
Contact your IT department for more information. Most corporate end users will not be the ones who apply these updates.

I tried to install the updater, but I'm getting a message that my device requires DST to be set manually.
|
|
In older models that are not aware of the DST rules (original Zire, Treo 180, and earlier), the following message will appear if you try to install the DST Update:
Your device requires DST to be set manually. Please visit the Palm Support website for instructions.
This means that your Palm device doesn't automatically update itself based on DST rules. You'll need to turn on and off DST manually.
- Go to Applications
.
- Launch the Prefs application.
- From the pulldown menu in the upper right, select Date & Time.
- Locate the Daylight Saving menu. Set this option to On in the Spring, and Off in the Fall.

I have run the update and noticed that my appointments are 1 hour off. I set the system date as March 15 (3/15) and they are still running 1 hour off.

The Microsoft DST2007 update does two things:
- Change the DST rule.
- Add Tijuana, Baja California time zone for those in Mexico who are in PST zone, but don’t observe DST.
Time shift during this period occurs because the DST rule update on the device happened correctly. However, the old rules embedded in the calendar events are not updated by the update. Synchronizing with Microsoft Outlook should resolve this correctly. Install to the PC the Windows OS DST update, and run Time zone update tool from Microsoft, then sync the device to correct the time shift.
