When the Treo 650 smartphone password protection is enabled, the password protection can be partially circumvented by running the Find feature while on the "Make Emergency Call" screen. This would allow a malicious user to view a list of search results from the Treo 650's built-in applications such as Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, Memos and Email. The malicious user cannot access or display anything beyond the search results list. An update is now available to address this. Who should install this update? All Treo 650 smartphone users. Notes: This patch is intended only for the Treo 650 smartphone. It does not work with other Palm devices.

• Installation using Palm HotSync and Quick Install: Windows 2000 or XP or Mac OS X 10.3 or 10.4 with Palm Desktop installed

Download & Install The Treo 650 Security Patch can be downloaded over-the-air to your Palm device and installed immediately. Or, if you prefer, you can download it to your PC or Mac and sync it to your Palm device. How to install: Over The Air | PC or Mac

It is always a good idea to make a backup of your important information. Prior to installing any update, Palm recommends backing up your Calendar events, or printing them out for reference, in the event that Calendar information is lost.

Installing the Treo 650 Security Patch

1. When you click on the download link, installation will begin. But first, read these instructions and make sure you understand them. Download Treo650SecurityInstaller.prc
2. After you click the download link, you'll be asked where to save the file.
   Select Save To: Applications. Then select Save.
   When asked if you want to accept "Treo650SecurityInstaller.prc" into Applications, select Yes.
3. Once you've downloaded the software over-the-air, go to Applications .
4. Tap on the application named 650 Security (appears as "650 Secur…" or "650 Security" in the launcher).
5. Tap OK on the screen that appears.
6. Your Palm device is now updated with the Treo 650 Security Patch.

Installing the Treo 650 Security Patch for Palm OS

Treo650SecurityInstaller.prc download 136 KB prc file Double-click the file you downloaded; the Palm Install Tool will appear. If asked, select your Treo 650's user name.

Perform a HotSync operation to move the file to your device.
Once you've synchronized, go to Applications . Tap on the application named 650 Security (appears as "650 Secur…" or "650 Security" in the launcher).
Tap OK on the screen that appears.
Watch as the updater quickly installs itself on your device.
Select OK at the prompt to perform a soft reset. After the reset, press Applications . The installation of the Treo 650 Security Update is now complete.
