Treo 180 Series Updater 1.0

Posted May 5, 2002

This updater improves the built-in software on Treo 180 and Treo 180g units manufactured during the first months of production (early 2002). Early adopters can now benefit from longer standby battery life and other improvements:

  • Adds to your Treo 180 GPRS (GPRS class 2B data services - 8-12Kbps Send - 16-24Kbps Receive)
  • Increases standby battery life to approximately 100 hours, depending on wireless coverage and signal strength
  • Provides an advanced dialog for call forwarding
  • Provides a new dialog for ringer preferences
  • Adds a language picker. Note: To use your Treo in any language other then English, your Palm Desktop and synchronization software must be in the same language as your handheld.
  • Adds other behind-the-scenes improvements, typo corrections and edits to make error messages more helpful.

To find out if this updater will help you
  1. Open the Applications launcher.
  2. Tap on the Prefs icon.
  3. From the pulldown menu in the upper right corner of the screen, select Ringer.
  4. If your Ringer Preferences screen looks like this, you can use the Treo 180 Series Updater 1.0:

If your Ringer Preferences screen looks like this, do not use the Treo 180 Series Updater 1.0:

System Requirements
  • Treo 180 or Treo 180g
  • Windows or Macintosh desktop computer
  • Do not run this updater if you have GPRS on your device (here's how to tell).

Installation Instructions
  1. Perform a HotSync operation. Make sure all your conduits are set to "Synchronize the files". All your data and applications will be erased from Treo during the update, and you can restore them with a HotSync operation.
  2. Download:
  3. If you downloaded the .zip or .sit file, decompress the file using a standard decompression utility.
  4. Follow all the instructions in the Treo 180 Series Updater 1.0 desktop installer, including an important initial HotSync operation to back up your data.
  5. When the update is complete, perform a HotSync operation to restore all your data. If you are using Outlook, be sure to manually change your conduits to "Outlook overwrites handheld" for the first HotSync operation: click here for more details (this is needed because of a PocketMirror issue). After the first HotSync, return your conduits to their original state.
