This update prevents a situation where the memory of the device will be erased or corrupted when the batteries are changed. Under certain conditions, the memory may not hold its state correctly even if batteries are removed for less than one minute.

The problem will appear only if the batteries are removed when the device is powered on. If the device is turned off prior to battery removal, the problem will not appear.

Installing the Pager Card Update

If you are using Palm™ Desktop 3.0.1 software on Windows 95/98, NT 4.0:

1. Download the updpgr.exe (27 KB EXE) file.
2. Using Windows Explorer, locate the directory where the updpgr.exe file is stored (normally c:\Temp).
3. Double-click on updpgr.exe to extract the PowerFailFix.prc file into a temporary directory.
4. Select the Install Tool in the Palm Desktop program folder (or launch the Palm Desktop application and click the Install button).
5. Select the appropriate user name in the User field, then Click the Add button.
6. Locate the PowerFailFix.prc file in your temporary directory.
7. Click Open
8. Click Done
9. Perform a HotSync® operation to install the update file to your handheld.
10. When the synchronization is completed, select the Reset button on the handheld when prompted.

If you are using the Palm™ MacPac v2 software on a Macintosh computer:

1. Download the updpgr.bin (3 KB BIN) file.
2. Use Stuffit Expander or similar utility to decode the updpgr.bin file. After decoding, you should see the updpgr.sit file.
3. Use Stuffit Expander or similar utility to "unstuff" the updpgr.sit file. You should then see the PowerFailFix.prc file.
4. Launch the HotSync Manager application.
5. From the HotSync menu, select Install.
6. Click the Add to list button, then locate and select the PowerFailFix.prc file. Close the Install Applications window.
7. Perform a HotSync operation to install the update file to your handheld.
8. When the synchronization is completed, select the Reset button on the handheld when prompted.
